Styles
There are many area rug styles, furniture styles, lighting styles or room styles, which
means there are almost endless options. In addition to traditional style, you  can choose modern style, such as bold sunflower, unicorn, etc. Before you determine your style, think about what kind of atmosphere you want to create in your room. Keed in mind that the area rug does not need to match everything in the room, but it should be used with the texture and tonality of existing furniture.

Colour
Colour is a critical point when choosing a area rug. Obviously, you need to think about what color  you like and the color will meet the design of your room, so this is an important decision. If you already have furniture, consider how different colors work with them. Rooms with lots of colours and patterns area usually best suited for neutral tones or monochrome area rugs. If you don't have furnitures yet, consider how different area rug colors work with the tone of floor, wall and ceiling, which will make the area rugs stand out or mix together. So think about what you want to create when considering colors.

Pattern
Not everyone is passionate about patterns, but if your furniture and walls are solid, patterned rugs can really make your room alive. Similarly, if you have patterned furniture, the sturdy area rug can have a grounded, calming effect. It's all about balance; if your room is already outfitted, consider this before choosing a rug. If the area rug is one of the first items you purchased, consider the style that suits you. Do you want something that is compelling or more subtle? The effect of the pattern on the room is closely related to its color, so consider how the two work together.

Size
A area rug that is too small for a room is one of the most common decorative errors. For most average sized rooms, there should be approximately 10 to 20 inches of exposed floor between the edge of the area rug and the walls of the room. Depending on the size of the room, you can be as low as 8 inches and as high as 24 inches. In any case, make sure the rug is in the center of the room and the distance between the area rug and the wall is the same on all four sides. You can also use the area rug to define the space. If you have an open concept space, the rules may vary. Consider the area you want to highlight and choose a size based on it, but keep in mind that it's better to be too big and not too small.

Maintenance
When choosing a area rug, please tell yourself how much work you are willing to put in to maintain it. Most area rugs need to be evacuated and rotated periodically. Flat woven area rugs are easy to vacuum, but you can also take them outside and defeat them in an old-fashioned way. Long velvet rugs are harder to clean and some must be delivered at home or professionally cleaned.

Regardless of the type you choose, be sure to use a area rug mat that is compatible with area rug materials and flooring. If it can be avoided, please do not expose the area rug to direct sunlight, and never let the stains fix. If you do these things, no matter what type you choose, you can actually ruin your area rug.
