Why are sloths lazy?

The sloth, surprisingly lazy mammals, lives in the tropical jungles of South America. They hang their limbs on a tree branch covered by thick leaves every day. When they were hungry, they would pick some leaves and fruits to eat, and only get the tree every week when they defecate. It is too lazy to eat and play, sometimes it can hang on the tree for a month without eating or drinking. The sloth does not like to move. One important reason is that it only eats low energy foods such as leaves, shoots and fruits. In order to save energy, it can only reduce the amount of activity. The leaves in the tropical jungle grow quickly, and new leaves can
be grown soon after eating. In addition, the leaves are succulent and they do not need to drink water. These all provide conditions for the sloth's "laziness". Therefore, they often hang in one place and do not move places for a few days. Sloths are slow to move, crawling slowly even in danger.

What conditions dose the sloth get faster?

Sloths move very slowly, moving only 1.8 to 2.4 meters per minute. But when the sloth swims, it is three times faster than on land.Although it is still not fast, it is already amazing. When the sloth wanted to swim, he climbed back to the branch near the water, and then dropped himself directly into the water. The long forelimbs of the sloth help him to paddle forward and swim in the same way as the frog.

Why does the sloth fur color turn green?

The sloth's fur is dirty and often turns green. This is because they hang on the tree for a long time, eat less, and move less. The spores of green algae or lichen in the air fall on them, constantly absorbing the water and carbon dioxide emitted from them, and germinating into green algae or lichen. As a result, they put on a "green coat" on them. With this protective color, it is even harder for the enemy to find them.

Why are sloths good at turning their heads?

Sloths can be 60 to 80 cm long and, depending on species, weigh from 3.6 to 7.7 kg.Compared with other mammals, sloths have two more cervical spines (normal mammals have 7, and sloths have 9). Therefore, the head of a sloth can be turned up to 270 degrees.
